Prismata Blitz Brawls and Achievements!

Hi everyone!

Today, I’m pleased to announce a new Event Mode feature in Prismata: Blitz Brawl.

Blitz Brawl

As we approach Prismata’s Beta release, we’ll be running an increasingly busy event schedule. One new event that we’re adding is something we’re calling Blitz Brawl. Here’s the scoop:

  • Blitz Brawl is a 1-hour free-for-all Prismata event consisting entirely of 6-second bullet games.
  • Players can start and stop at any time, but the goal is to accumulate as many wins as possible over 60 minutes.
  • Each win is worth 1 point. Draws are worth 0.1 points each.
  • Blitz Brawl will run automatically twice each week from 9:00pm-10:00pm ET on Wednesdays and 2:00pm-3:00pm ET on Saturdays.
  • The first Blitz Brawl will occur at 9:00pm ET tonight!

To join the Brawl, just hit the PLAY button in the Event tab once the Brawl goes live! The Blitz Brawl has its own Leaderboard as well, which you can check by clicking “Event Leaderboard” on the left.

Mac/Steam update

Hi everyone!

Just want to give a quick update on how things are going with our Mac/Steam testing. Thanks to everyone for trying out the builds and sending us their feedback!

We had a lot of players use the Steam version and it seems to be working great:

  • No major issues have been encountered so far.
  • Note: friends will not see you as “playing Prismata” because the game is still in “Beta” mode on Steam. That’s expected.

We received a lot of bug reports concerning the Mac build. We’ve fixed a few issues, including the following:

Mac and Steam builds are available for testing

Hi all,

Two announcements:

  1. We have a Mac desktop build available for testing.
  2. Steam Beta keys are up on Humble for Kickstarter supporters for testing.

Both the Mac build and the Steam edition of Prismata are still very much in development, so you may encounter bugs or crashes. These are test builds! That said, they’re far enough along that they should work for most users.

Fall Prismata Q&A, part 2

Lots of folks liked the Q&A from a few weeks back. I had meant to post a second part, but got a little sidelined. Here it is!

Q: What have you been up to since the last Q&A?

A bunch of stuff:

  • De-uglifying and polishing a lot of the in-game assets, animations, menu screens, and so on.
  • Switching our server runtime environment from cpython to pypy for additional speed.
  • Improving our build/deploy system.
  • Finishing up the single player menu screens and the flow for clearing missions and unlocking new content.
  • Completing our single-player cinematic cutscene system.
  • Rebalancing units like Vivid Drone and Deadeye Operative.
  • Sound!

Hi all,

One quick announcement, plus some random Q&A!

Price Changes

You may have noticed that we’ve modified several prices in Prismata:

  • Flips in the Black Lab now cost 349 Shards instead of 399 Shards.
  • The bar in the Armory now requires 1050 energy to fill up instead of 1200.
  • 10 infusions now costs 299 Shards instead of 399 Shards.
  • Most skin and emote direct-buy prices have been lowered.

Determining the Popularity of Prismata Collectibles using the Elo System

Like many competitive online games, Prismata has a variety of unlockable in-game collectible cosmetic items: unit skins, equippable emotes, and more. However, Prismata differs from many other games in that these items are not obtained randomly through pack-opening. Instead, players complete minigames in the Armory and Black Lab, where they have a choice of a number of different prizes. A consequence of this design is that by examining the choices that players make in these minigames, we can actually determine the most and least desirable cosmetic items.

Prismata Art Update!

Hi all,

I mentioned earlier this summer that we’re very close to our Beta milestone, and one of the few remaining tasks is to polish up the remaining in-game art and cosmetics. Today, I want to give an update on how that’s going.

Unit Abilities and Attack Animations

This project is almost complete! Indeed, a few new unit animations have already been deployed on the alpha server for testing, and a whole lot more are coming. You might have seen these ones already:

Custom attack animations have been added for a number of Prismata units.
